It is the name of several geographical places, but the most important is the city of Paris, capital of France and of its Île-de-France department. The Roman name was Lutetia Parisii (Lutetia, from the Parisians the people who inhabited it), but it later took the name Civitas Parisiorum to eventually be reduced to Paris.
