Daughter of the founding king of Thebes, Cadmo, also introducer of the alphabet and agriculture in Greece, and the goddess Harmony. Deadly lover of Zeus and mother of Dionyso (the twice born). The Romans called her Stimula, exciter of the Bacantes in the Dionysian festivities. Scientists call semele androgyna a climbing plant of the asparagaceae family, endemic to the Canary Islands and the Azores, which they also call gibalbera, alcacán, lega or brusque.
