tirar de la manta

Mantas was the name that was given in Navarra to large canvases where they could read the names of the Jewish converts in each village. In this regard, and as Manrique Marichalar says in his &#"History of Legislation&#" &#(1868&#): &#"... in many churches of Navarre seen, even in the late eighteenth century, large canvases, commonly called blankets, they were written the names of the families descended from converted Jews. &#" In Tudela, the blanket was placed in the Cathedral¿s ¿Chapel of Christ the Forgiver¿ and was placed there in 1610, according to authorities, &#"so that blood cleansing be retained in the city and elsewhere, and one would be able to distinguish those descended from the converts, [...] and could also distinguish the quality of noble men. &#" This shameful practice derived from &#"pull the rug&#", ie someone was publicly unveiled as a new Christian and therefore had Jewish ancestry, which at the time was a great discredit in society.
